Coronary Stents are small, expandable mesh-like medical devices used to support the inner wall of a narrowed or blocked coronary artery and help maintain blood flow following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). They are commonly used as part of coronary angioplasty procedures to treat significant coronary artery stenosis.

A coronary stent is typically mounted on a balloon catheter and carefully positioned at the target lesion. The balloon is then inflated to expand the stent against the vessel wall. After the balloon is deflated and removed, the expanded stent remains in place to provide structural support to the treated section of the artery.

The two major categories include Drug-Eluting Stents (DES) and Bare-Metal Stents (BMS). Drug-eluting stents feature a specialized coating that releases medication over time and is designed to help reduce excessive tissue growth within the treated vessel.

Coronary stents are manufactured using approved medical-grade metallic materials and are available in different diameters, lengths, designs, and delivery-system configurations to accommodate individual vessel anatomy and procedural requirements. Radiopaque markers may assist physicians in positioning the stent under fluoroscopic imaging.

These devices are supplied sterile and intended for single-use implantation. Selection and implantation require assessment of the patient’s coronary anatomy and clinical condition by a qualified interventional cardiologist. Proper device selection, deployment, and post-procedure management should follow the manufacturer’s instructions and established clinical protocols.
